PS3 to dominate Blu-ray player sales until 2010

February 8th, 2007 · No Comments

UK media analyst Understanding and Solutions predicts that that there will be 115m HD-Ready homes in Western Europe by 2010, but only 17m of these will have access to HD broadcasting, creating a huge content gap. The firm says this will create a great opportunity for studios to sell high definition media. But not all formats will succeed commercially, says company CEO Jim Bottoms.
“We forecast the total installed base of Blu-ray players (including PS3 and PC Drives) in Western Europe by the end of 2007 to be close to four million and by 2010 to have grown to over 45 million. With Blu-ray accounting for upwards of 75 per cent of all player sales each year, our analysis leads us to conclude that BD will be the clear winner in the HD disc format war.”
By 2010, Understanding and Solutions predicts the PS3 will make up 52 per cent of the total number of High Definition DVD players in general use.
