Sky to launch MPEG-4 Freeview pay-per-view channels

Sky is planning to launch its own branded Freeview boxes for a new terrestrial pay-per-view digital TV service planned for later this year. Full details will be announced shortly, but Sky’s proposition involves removing its current channel selection (Sky Three, Sky News and Sky Sports News) from the Freeview roster and replacing them with four MPEG-4 encoded pay channels, offering sports and movies. The satcaster has confirmed that the lineup will include live Barclays Premiership matches.
