EMI to release music without DRM

February 9th, 2007 · No Comments

British music giant EMI is widely expected to release part of its music catalogue online without DRM (digital rights management). The move would enable its recordings to be made available via a range of online e-tailers and playable on the widest selection of hardware. A range of distribution partners is expected to be announced shortly.
The label has been experimenting with the controversial concept, most recently making available a track from Norah Jones. The news comes after Apple chief Steve Jobs much publicized call for an end to DRM.
