Whirpool introduces the home entertainment fridge

February 10th, 2007 · No Comments

White goods brand Whirlpool has shown a refrigerator with a difference – it has a dock on the door for a variety of CE products, including MP3 and DVD players. The so-called centralpark connector was unveiled at the recent International Builders Show, organized by The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and is described as a plug-and-play platform allowing consumers to ‘not only ‘park’ but interact with their electronic devices in a central location.’
Says David Swift, president of Whirlpool North America: “We believe the Centralpark port is a critical and logical link for consumer electronics and home appliances working together on a platform consumers want.” Whirlpool’s research shows that countertops are cluttered with electronic devices such as digital picture frames, DVD systems, radios, phones, MP3 players; the dock allows consumers to use these devices in the kitchen, at eye level, and even while they are being charged. Currently, Whirlpool is working with Jabil, a global electronic product solutions company, to bring the concept to market in 2007.
