151 million HDTV homes by 2011

February 12th, 2007 · No Comments

The number of high definition homes worldwide will jump from the 48 million recorded at the end of 2006 to more than 151 million by 2011, according to new research from Informa Telcoms and Media.
More than 58 per cent of HD ready homes will be found in the US, with Japan taking second place with 20 per cent. However, while HD screen ownership continues to rocket, driven by rapidly falling prices, there seems a clear shortage of HD software available for viewing. By the end of 2006, only 33 per cent of HD sets were connected to an HD source. The report intimates that a significant number of new screen owners are disappointed with the performance of their purchase when it is connected to standard definition sources.
