Hitachi to introduce low-price 50-inch plasma

February 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Hitachi is planning a vigorous assault on the large screen flatpanel market this spring. Amongst its planned highlights are a 50-inch plasma with 1280×1080 resolution which is expected to retail for around 1500 pounds when it debuts in April. The model is an ALiS panel being produced in volume for the Chinese market, which has a slightly different specification for HDTV than the rest of the world (1280×720).
The brand will also introduce a wider range of Full HD 1920×1080 plasmas over the summer. These will include models with integrated PVR hard drives and a new technology dubbed Smooth Movie, a frame rate conversion process designed to eliminate the slow-pan judder seen so often in movie material transferred to disc. In addition to Smooth Movie, the UK sets will also offer a Smooth PAL mode, to reduce line flicker and improve 50- to 60Hz conversion.
