PS3 third in sales league as Xbox 360 gets price cut

The is running third in the next-gen games console race, according to unverified US NPD sales data leaked by Microsoft. In January, the Nintendo is said to have topped the charts with 436,000 units sold. The racked-up sales of 294,000 consoles, with the PlayStation 3 coming last at 244,000 unit. Year-on-year, Microsoft says its sales are up 18 per cent.
In related news, retail operation Makro UK has cut the price of the Xbox 360 Premium package to just 200 pounds, as part of a two-week loss leader promotion. The price cut is not an official Microsoft reduction and has led to consternation amongst rival retailers. Unconfirmed reports continue to circulate that a new black version of the Xbox 360, with larger hard drive, will be launched against the PS3 later this year.
