Budget Blu-ray player to output 1080/24

March 5th, 2007 · No Comments

Sony says that its upcoming budget player, the 600 dollar BDP-S300, will sport HDMI v1.3 and be able to output Blu-ray movies in a native 1080/24Hz format.  Until now, the only player able to output BD at 24Hz was Pioneer.
The new deck will also offer what the brand dubs BRAVIA Theater Sync, wherein multiple components linked by HDMI can be controlled via a single remote. A similar system has been employed by Panasonic called HDAVI and VIERA Link. There has been no news yet from Sony UK about a European introduction for the player.
Randy Waynick, Sony Electronics home products division senior VP, says that the brand “is trying to rise above the talk of format wars. We are trying to figure out what consumers want to do, both in what they are telling the retailers and what they are actually going out there and purchasing.”
