Digital movie downloads a rip-off

March 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Digital downloaders have given a big humbs down to legal downloads, saying they do not represent value for money. That’s the findings of a new survey from research operation Advanis. The survey reveals that digital consumers do not want to pay more than 2.50 dollars a download, considerably less than is currently charged by studios eager to protect their DVD distribution business.
Of those polled, some 79 per cent claimed to download movies illegally. According to Advanis’ Phil Dwyer, Hollywood has little to gain by trying to catch and punish illegal downloaders: “The experience of the music industry and the evidence of our research suggests there is a hardcore of illegal downloaders who are unlikely to change their behavior. The industry would be better advised to focus on migrating new and legally inclined consumers on to these services.”
