Philips to turn off fluorescent Ambilight TVs

March 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Philips says it will gradually phase out fluorescent backlighting for its s in favour of LED light sources. The Dutch CE giant believes that its latest LED backlighting innovation, a rapidly shuttering system dubbed Aptura, will help reduce the smearing effects common to LCD technology, as well as allow the company to develop ever-thinner flatscreens. LEDs will also be used to create the Ambilight lighting effect on upcoming sets.
