In a calculated effort to inject some excitement into the launch of the PlayStation 3, Sony gave away 46-inch Bravia LCD TVs to the first 100 or so in line at a London store. The huge giveaway is said to have cost the Japanese brand 250,000 pounds in stock, but delighted those who had taken the time out to queue. Cynics might claim that the stunt was clearly intended to disguise the fact that the PS3 hasn’t sold out of its pre-order allocations, although there’s little consensus in the video games industry as to what that fact actually signifies. Sony has made 200,000 consoles available for the UK launch.
