And so the PS3 price cuts begin

March 28th, 2007 · No Comments

Days after Sony proclaimed the launch of the “the most successful in history”, the console is being discounted to just under 400 pounds. According to industry site GamesIndustry.biz, UK e-tailer Aria.co.uk is selling the unit for 399.95 pounds as part of a limited promotion. With a glut of consoles in the market it’s only a matter of time before canny buyers have their choice of promotional bundles.
Yuki Fujimori, an analyst at Goldman Sachs believes that Sony will cut the price of the PS3 worldwide by 100 dollars in October. He says there’s plenty of historical information that this will happen. He says falling component costs will help Sony make the reduction. When the PSOne was launched it had 700 components. This eventually fell to 200. The PS2 was launched with 2000 parts which fell to 600. The first generation PS3 has 4000 parts, but this will change significantly before the year is out, says Fujimori. For many, buying a PS3 could rapidly turn into a waiting game.
