With 100 million sales iPod now officially iconic

April 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Apple has sold 100 million s. The milestone took less than six years to achieve and puts the product in a rare class of iconic consumer products. By way of context, it took Sony 13 years to shift 100 million cassette Walkmans, and five years to sell the same number of PlayStation 2s. Most items never come close to selling in such numbers.
Steve Jobs says that the iPod, along with iTunes and its online music store, has “transformed how tens of millions of music lovers acquire, manage and listen to their music,” adding: “At this historic milestone, we want to thank music lovers everywhere for making iPod such an incredible success. iPod has helped millions of people around the world rekindle their passion for music, and we’re thrilled to be a part of that.”
