Flat TVs a reason to be cheerful says Philips

April 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Philips’ Q1 financials make for upbeat reading, with the Dutch giant showing a profit despite slightly lower sales. Earnings before interest and taxes have jumped 27 per cent, with net income increasing to 875 million Euros. Much of the fiscal glow comes from sales of LCD and plasma screens. The company says that its sales of flatscreens this quarter eclipsed the same period last year, despite 2006 being bolstered by the promise of the World Cup. “This year’s first quarter, flat TV shipments were 50 percent higher than the previous year but they were offset by lower sales of monitors and CRT TVs.”
Looking forward, Philips predicts little change in the consumer electronics market worldwide during the second quarter.
