April 19th, 2007 · No Comments

has racked up sales of more than 100,000 players in North America. The figure does not include PC drives or the Xbox 360 peripheral. The milestone was announced by the HD DVD Promotional Group, which in a statement says that the ‘manufacturing efficiencies of HD DVD’ are responsible for the price of decks falling.
Toshiba’s Jodi Sally says “Toshiba remains committed to drive sales with strategic pricing and marketing to complement the rapid market adoption of HDTVs. Retailers are showing a significant increase in sales volume this month so far. On Amazon.com, our HD DVD players continue to rank among the top 10 best sellers of all DVD players, which says a lot about how consumers relate to price.”
The group predicts that there will be more than 300 titles available in the format worldwide by the end of the year. This Summer LG will begin selling the first combination HD DVD player in the UK. Samsung will follow in Q4.
