LCD makers worldwide are under pressure, but Sharp’s profits still jumped 15 per cent in the last year, thanks in part to soaring LCD TV sales (up 49 per cent). The Corporation’s focus on the refrigerator market also looks like it’s paid off, with sales up 17 per cent.
In its year-end financials, the Japanese electronics giant reported a net income of 101.7 billion yen, with overall sales up 12 per cent. Looking forward, its outlook is cautious. Sharp predicts a profit slowdown to 3.2 per cent for the coming year with a sales increase of less than nine per cent.
