Nintendo to counter Wii shortage

May 1st, 2007 · No Comments

Nintendo President Satoru Iwata says that he is boosting production of the hard-to-find games console and described the continuing shortages as “abnormal.”
“We must do our best to fix the lack of stock,” he said, confirming that the company had not correctly predicted the ongoing level of demand. Despite the stock controversy, Nintendo’s year end financials reveal a profit jump of 77 per cent. The company estimates that it will sell 14 million consoles by March 2008. 5.84 million Wiis have been sold since its launch five months ago. In addition, Nintendo is now producing 2.5 million DS handhelds a month. Iwata says that this is the highest production level for any Nintendo game machine.
