A 40-inch LED-backlight LCD TV has won Samsung the SID Gold Award for Display of the Year at the 45th annual Society for Display exhibition. The model promises a contrast ratio of 10,000:1, approximately five times higher than that of an LCD panel with a conventional CCFL backlight. No on-sale date has yet been set for the screen.
The company has also used the Expo, which runs until May 25th at the Long Beach Convention Center California, to show a 70inch LCD TV with proprietary 120Hz McFiTM (motion-compensated frame interpolation) technology, said to dramatically improve motion resolution. Also on show from Samsung is the world’s largest (A4-sized/14.3-inch diagonal) color ‘electronic paper’, a plastic, flexible display able to deliver undistorted color images even when the surface is bent.
