Platform neutral is way to go says HD winner Warner

May 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Warner’s platform neutral policy has seen it post impressive figures for the and release of Oscar winning thriller The Departed. Warner now claims to have become the first studio to have sold (rather than given away) 100,000 copies of a high-def disc title: “It’s no accident that Warner is the first to achieve this benchmark. We owe this success to a combination of great product and our decision to support both high-definition formats,” said President Ron Sanders.
With a 30 per cent share of the HD disc market, supporting both systems has made great business sense for the Hollywood major. Yet only Paramount shares its viewpoint and releases in both formats.
Comments Sanders: “At a time when the home video business is flat and high-definition media presents our best hope for near-term growth, it is unfortunate that we as an industry continue to perpetuate consumer confusion.”
