Fire risk forces Panasonic to recall three million products

May 31st, 2007 · No Comments

Matsushita, parent of Panasonic, has recalled three million home appliances in Japan amid fears about safety. At the centre of the recall are microwave ovens, fridge-freezers and clothes dryers. The goods were manufactured between 1983 and 1993. It says it has concerns about parts overheating, creating a fire hazard.
To date, 23 accidents involving its microwaves have been reported across Japan. “We are very sorry for causing trouble,” offered Junji Esaka, president of Matsushita Home Appliances. The recall, inspection and repair work is expected to cost the company a billion yen.
