Sony announces massive investment in image sensors

Buoyed by the success of its digital camera division, Sony Semiconductor Kyushu has announced a 60 million yen investment into image sensor production. Sony will use the money to extend clean room facilities in its Kumamoto Technology Center and increase capacity by 20 per cent over the next three years. Kumamoto is Sony’s principle facility for the fabrication of imaging devices, making CCDs, CMOS sensors and micro-display devices.
