June 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Samsung has introduced its biggest to date. The 70 inch 1080p model not only dominates by sheer size, but it also innovates with an LED backlight (actually 20,000 LED lights), rather than conventional cold cathode fluorescent lamp. To improve black level, the set also has local dimming technology which enables parts of the the backlighting system to be turned off in dark image areas, for a dynamic contrast ratio of 500,000:1. Samsung maintains that the use of LED eliminates flicker and smearing problems.
According to JongWoo Park, President of Samsung’s Digital Media Business, availability will be limited to 100 pieces across Korean. However, he says that the set will be available worldwide later this year. It has been priced at 59 million won.
