Sony has danced around the question for months but now it looks like the jig is up. Sony chairman and chief executive Sir Howard Stringer has all but confirmed that a PlayStation 3 price cut, described as a “refinement” by the Sony supremo, is just months away. That Sony would enter the autumn without slicing a substantial amount from the unit’s retail price was never really in doubt. Most pundits estimate a price drop of around 100 dollars.
Talking about the increasingly dominant Wii, Stringer says Nintendo’s star performer and his PS3 are “complementary and supplementary.”
