HD DVD supporter Universal Studios says it is unconcerned about Blockbuster‘s decision to only stock Blu-ray titles in the majority of its video rental stores worldwide. Kenneth Graffeo Executive vice-president of marketing for the Hollywood major, says: “If you look at their press release they say they are keeping both formats available online, and that’s where Blockbuster’s biggest growth is going to be. They also say they will support it as consumer demand grows.”
Graffeo concludes: “HD DVD rental is only one per cent of our business. That makes it insignificant in my view.” He adds he is confident as a wider range of cheaper HD DVD players come to market, Blockbuster will rethink its position.
