Xbox 360 HD DVD drive sells over 150,000 units Stateside

June 26th, 2007 · No Comments

Just days after Microsoft’s European Consumer media Group manager Xavier Bringue refused to be drawn on sales of the Xbox 360 drive in the US, the HD DVD Group confirmed that the device has sold 155,0000 units during its first year of American sale.
Toshiba’s Oliver Van Wynendele says that the attachment rate for owners of HD DVD hardware is four units for every player; he claims that attachment rates are far lower, typically one movie disc per console. Blu-ray sales however, continue to outstrip its rival.
Warren Lieberfarb, who when ruling the roost at Warner Brothers, effectively launched DVD and cajoled his peers into supporting the format, still backs HD DVD over BD. “The consumer is very price-sensitive in this time and age, and we’re outperforming on that front,” he says.
