BBC iPlayer introduction as significant as colour TV says Beeb

June 28th, 2007 · No Comments

The much-debated BBC iPlayer application will be made available for download from July 27. Viewers will be able to use it to watch broadcast TV shows from the Corporation up to seven days after their original transmission (on PCs), albeit in a small window with limited resolution.
Director General Mark Thompson claimed that the arrival of the iPlayer was as significant as the introduction of colour TV in the UK, forty years ago. Hold on, wasn’t HDTV also hailed as the most significant event in broadcasting? These technology types are so fickle.
