HD DVD players sales jump 37 per cent

July 18th, 2007 · No Comments

HD DVD player sales have risen 37 per cent in the States, according to the North American HD DVD Promotional Group. Discs sales are also up, at 20 per cent. In a statement, the organisation also claims that Blu-ray player sales fell 27 per cent over the same period, with BD disc sales down five per cent. The group claims to have compiled the numbers from a variety of sources, including NPD sales data and sell-through figures from Hollywood studios. Ken Graffeo, executive vice president of HD strategic marketing for Universal and co-president of the HD DVD Promotional Group, says: “The numbers are clear. HD DVD is steadily gaining momentum and market share. With HD DVD players now at prices starting at 299 dollars and with strong marketing campaigns around new titles with web-enabled interactive features, we are continuing to raise the bar for the consumer experience.”
