Hitachi announces first Blu-ray camcorder

Hitachi has announced the world’s first Blu-ray camcorder. The model, which most likely will debut at September’s Ceatec tech-fest in Tokyo, writes to 8cm BD-RE/-R discs via a new mini BD writer (pictured above), as well as DVD-RAM/-RW/-R discs. In Blu-ray mode the camcorder records to full 1080×1920 1080p resolution using MPEG4 AVC/H.264 encoding.
