Giant screen plasma TV sales booming

August 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Large screen plasma sales are booming, according to a new report from Quixel Research. It says sales of PDPs between 50 and 59-inches are now outselling 42-inch models, which have come under pressure from comparable sized LCDs. The big screens now account for 48 per cent of all plasma sales.
Says Tamaryn Pratt, of Quixel Research: “PDP manufacturers are moving to higher ground as the LCD TV competition continues to press on and the 50-inch and above space is where PDP can offer consumers values right now.”
Long-standing plasma vendor Hitachi says it will introduce its first 42-inch LCD later this year. The model is expected to debut at IFA. “We still believe in plasma for larger screen sizes,” says Hitachi’s Peter Johnston. “But the differences in smaller sets are being marginalised. From our point of view, it’s actually more difficult bringing a 42-inch Full HD plasma to market.”
