The Spider-Man trilogy and Close Encounters of the Third Kind are expected to push Blu-ray sales past the one million mark in North America. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment says sales of BD in Europe have already topped 250,000.
David Bishop, worldwide president of SPHE says: “These sales milestones across the world illuminate the positive reception from retailers and consumers alike for Blu-ray. Our strong fourth-quarter line-up will underscore the confidence in this format.” Simon McDowell, of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Europe, adds: “Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD by more than 2:1 in Europe.”
Q4 certainly promises to be a strong one for the BD format, thanks to big hitters from Fox. These include Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Die Hard 4.0. Interactive extras on the FF sequel include deleted scenes, making-of documentary and featurettes, a ‘Who Dares Defy Galactus’ multiplayer game and a trivia quiz.
