New TI chipset promises cheap HDTV for all

September 6th, 2007 · No Comments

DLP-inventor Texas Instruments has developed a low-cost high-definition chipset which it believes will bring HD capability to everyday electronics. Its DaVinci TMS320DM355 can be mass-produced for less than ten dollars, which means it can be built into digital cameras and camcorders, phones, security cams and other portable devices. DaVinci records MPEG-4 in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second and has a low power requirement.
TI predicts that devices will be able to record HD for around eighty minutes fuelled by a pair of AA batteries.
