Sharp to launch Quick-start Blu-ray player

September 10th, 2007 · No Comments

Sharp is wading into the HD disc format war with its first player. The Aquos-branded BD-HP20U will debut in the US later this month, priced at 550 dollars. The model features a regulation 1080/24 output via HDMI 1.3 and DVD upscaling. It also conforms to the CEC control specification, here dubbed Aquos Link. However, the unit’s most attractive feature is probably Quick Start, which promises to play a BD movie in less than 10 seconds. This is considerably faster than rival players. Disc compatibility includes DVD and CD.
Sharp is a major supplier of blue-laser diodes to the industry.
