Top LCD TV makers look to reduce power consumption

September 17th, 2007 · No Comments

As large s expand in popularity, so grows their power consumption, potentially making them a target for green-inspired tax hikes in some territories. So the race is on to reduce power consumption.
In Japan, traditional rivals Sony, Sharp and Hitachi have agreed to jointly investigate new technologies with an aim to reduce power consumption to half current levels by 2011.
Meanwhile, Europe is destined to become the most important TV market in the world. At least that’s what Sharp thinks. Last year, 10 million LCD TVs were sold throughout UK, Germany, France and Italy. By 2011, Europe will represent a third of all LCD TVs shipped. The biggest demand is expected to come from Eastern Europe, which is currently growing at 200 per cent per year.
