Sony planning new cheaper PS3

September 28th, 2007 · No Comments

Is Sony planning a lower cost, stripped back ? Reports on an FCC filing in the US, indicate a new iteration, the CECHG01, with a 40GB hard drive, and perhaps only two USB slots and no card reader, could be upcoming. Sony is known to have been in discussions with Foxconn to make lower-cost PS3s, to better compete against Nintendo and Microsoft.
Analysts also expect Sony to finally announce a genuine price cut for the UK PS3 in a matter of weeks. So either way, the Sony super-console could soon be significantly more affordable.
In related news, the continues to transform the fortunes of Nintendo. The console maker is now ranked as the second biggest company in Japan, in terms of market capitalization, after Toyota. The company’s share price has soared, as both the Wii and the DS dominate their respective markets.
