Personal Video Recorders can now be found in one of five US homes. According to new data from the Leichtman Research Group PVR penetration will rise to 50 per cent by 2011. The sector is currently experiencing rapid growth, fuelled by the adoption of the technology by satellite broadcasters, who have been aggressively pushing the benefits to their subscribers. However, consumer use of the technology remains limited, with most US PVR households only using the device to record five TV shows or less a week. The research organization suggests that even though PVRs are increasingly common, they have yet to change the way their owners view TV. It’s estimated that 95 per cent of all TV viewing in the US is live.
