The days of the remote control could be numbered. At the Japanese CEATEC Expo this week, Toshiba unveiled a Qosmio laptop PC that allows the user to control DVD functionality with the wave of a hand. All the basic transport controls can be achieved by simply gesticulating. The key to the trick is the company’s new SpursEngine processor, which has been derived from the PS3 Cell Engine. Currently, the processor can only register hand commands from 3.3m, but that’s likely to improve. No street date has yet been set for the technology.
