October 4th, 2007 · No Comments

Universal has opened an online store, dubbed U-shop, for users. Evan Almighty is the first HD DVD release to take advantage of the webshop; viewers will be able to click on items featured on the disc (such as an environmentally-sound solar radio) in order to buy them. Disc owners will also be able to download new content via their disc, such as trailers and bonus scenes.
HD DVD Promotional Group chief Ken Graffeo says fans will also soon be able to buy exclusive movie collectables online, such as limited edition T-shirts, from their HD DVD players. “For the first time you have Universal really going out and taking advantage of the format.” He says the technology is all about enhancing the viewing experience. “We want to show how far we can go.”
Universal Studios president Craig Kornblau, a long-time advocate of HD DVD, adds: “The guaranteed features on every HD DVD players allow us to explore the world beyond what’s possible on a physical disc and redefine the home movie experience.”
