Fox Home Entertainment has confirmed that its high-profile The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer release is proving less than a superhero on some Blu-ray players. The disc is apparently meeting its match on Samsung and LG machines, specifically the BD-P1200 and BH100. A cocktail of Fox’s favoured copyright protection, BD+, and BD Java authoring is thought to be the cause of failures; both Korean hardware companies are now scrambling to produce firmware updates. Fox says the problem lies with hardware, and not authoring. Says Steve Feldstein: “We are releasing more and more advanced interactive titles, and consumers should lobby their hardware manufacturers to release firmware upgrades post haste. The title was well-reviewed and playing well on updated players.”
