Sony will launch its stripped down PlayStation 3 into the American market on November 2, priced at 399 dollars. The model, which has a 40GB drive, no backwards compatibility with PS2 games (although PSOne games play) and no support for Super Audio CD, is expected to accelerate the competition with Nintendo and Microsoft. The latter is expected to retaliate with special console and game bundle promotions.
