HD DVD players top US sales chart

October 11th, 2007 · No Comments

Dedicated players are once again topping the US player best-seller lists, after being bumped by a low-cost Sony player in August, according to sales data released by the NPD Group.
In figures covering September, HD DVD players took 53 per cent of sales, leaving Blu-ray players at 44 per cent with LG’s dual format machine picking up the balance.
The boost to the format has come with Toshiba release of 3rd generation hardware. The company says that sales of PC HD DVD drives are also growing fast, with 5 million HD DVD drives expected to be sold during 2008. Toshiba argues that owners of HD DVD-enabled PCs are more likely to buy movies than owners of PS3s are likely to buy Blu-rays.
