Seiko Epson doubles life of OLED, hopes to challenge Sony

Seiko Epson will launch a challenge to Sony and Samsung, the current front-runners in the race to dominate worldwide screen production. The company says that it has already developed the technology to double the life of an OLED screen, taking it to approx. 50,000 hours. Production of prototype 8-inch organic electroluminescent panels has already begun at the company’s Fujimi Plant in Nagano, Japan.
The screens will be seen for the first time at the display technology expo FPD International 2007, which opens in Yokohama on October 24.
