HD DVD camp plans Xmas blow to Blu-ray

Has Toshiba negotiated a deal with US retail giant Wal-Mart to sell an entry level player for less than 200 dollars? Early reports indicate that it has, and that the model will ship in time for the vital Christmas selling season. A big-branded, low-price player in such a high-profile location is sure to heap more pressure on , which is still reeling from the loss of Transformers on the BD format. By way of comparison, the cheapest US price for a Blu-ray machine will be the 40GB at 399 dollars.

    Last weekend Walmart sold the Toshiba HD-A2 for something like $99.95 US dollars. However, there were only 20 at each store and they went fast!
