No price cuts for Blu-ray as HD DVD cheapens

November 2nd, 2007 · No Comments

Sony says it won’t attempt to compete with on price in the US. According to Stan Glasgow, president of Sony Electronics USA, the company is not expecting its player prices to dip below 399 dollars any time soon. Models from Toshiba’s competing range are undercutting format machines at all key retail outlets in the US, with some shops offering the HD-A2 at less than 100 dollars as part of a limited promotion. When quizzed by trade magazine TWICE, Glasgow refused to be pushed on Sony’s plans for a Profile 1.1 release, although it’s certain that news of 1.1 and probably 1.2 players will be announced at the January CES.
