Blu-ray leads title choice, but strength eroded

November 9th, 2007 · No Comments

has edged past in title capacity, according to new figures released. At the end of October, US consumers could choose from 332 BD discs compared to 328 for HD DVD. There are also more BD titles queued for release, 66 compared to 42. But there still seems little consensus on how the HD disc market will play out.
Jim Bottoms from Understanding & Solutions, a market research organization used extensively by the Blu-Ray Disc Association, says: “There is growing concern throughout the industry that both high-definition disc formats could be lost completely in a world of competing delivery options and viewing platforms. As we stand today, Blu-ray industry support remains the strongest grouping, and it is therefore the format with the greatest chance of market success, although its strength is being eroded. Whatever happens, continued competition between the two groups will lead to continuing confusion and uncertainty.”
