HD format war at stalemate says Sony

November 12th, 2007 · No Comments

In stark contrast to the bullish rhetoric characteristic of the Disc Association, Sony supremo Sir Howard Stringer has declared that the ongoing HD format war is at stalemate.
“We were trying to win on the merits,”” he said “which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides. It’s a difficult fight.”
In an interview with the Associated Press, he also admits that prior to the launch of the two formats he was presented with the opportunity to consolidate the two systems but declined. Stringer concludes that ultimately “It doesn’t mean as much as all that” who wins. Don’t expect Sony Pictures to begin releasing titles on anytime soon though.
