Spy spoof Get Smart wins top DVD awards

November 13th, 2007 · No Comments

Classic spy spoof Get Smart has walked away with the Best in Show award at this year’s American TV DVD Awards. Sponsored by a selection of trade groups, Get Smart: The Complete Series took top spot through its use of innovative packaging (a phone booth box design) and extensive extras, including bloopers, commentaries and interviews.
Thomas K. Arnold, publisher of trade magazine Home Media Magazine says: “This is a classic show and it’s good to see the care and consideration that fans should expect put into this DVD set. So many catalogue TV DVDs are just thrown out there with little added value beyond the episodes themselves.” Get Smart also won Best 1960s series DVD.
Jim Henson’s The Muppet Show was awarded Best 1970s show on DVD, with its stable mate Fraggle Rock Season 3, winning Best 1980s series. SF hit Heroes took the Best 2000 series Region 1 award, with Seinfeld: Season 8 winning Best 1990s series.
Other award-winners included: Survivor: Vanuatu (Best Reality Series); The Dresden Files (Best One-Season Wonder); Planet Earth (Best TV Documentary), and Lost: Season 2 (Best Bonus Materials). The award for Best Foreign TV Series went to our own Doctor Who: Series 2.
