Disney to give away movies for portable viewing

November 22nd, 2007 · No Comments

Walt Disney Studios will join Fox Home Entertainment in offering a portable compressed version of feature films as an extra on some of its blockbuster releases during 2008. The so-called ‘Digital Copy’ version can be transferred without restriction to portable media players and PCs. Fox has been the first out of the gate to offer this feature with the US release of Die Hard 4.0. Disney Home Entertainment president Bob Chapek says the concept solves “two of the biggest problems with downloading movies, storage space and download time. Either way you look at it, it is going to be a real nifty interim step, or it is going to be the way the majority of consumers get their digital content.”
