Samsung ramps up super-large screen LCD production

November 23rd, 2007 · No Comments

Samsung says it will spend 2 trillion Won expanding its eighth-generation LCD panel production line, but joint venture partner Sony is not taking part. The enlarged factory is expected to begin production during the third quarter of 2008. The first phase of the so-called 8-1 line belongs to S-LCD Corp., which is run by the two rival screen makers. The Korean company says that the expansion will help it meet growing demand for screens 50-inches and above.
Unlike Sony, Samsung also supplies panels to third party companies. Sony says that it fully intends to work with Samsung on upcoming next generation LCD panel production, beginning with S-LCD’s 8-2 line.
