Third hi-def format still in the game

November 29th, 2007 · No Comments

In what must be the most unnecessary product news of the decade, London-based New Medium Enterprises, the makers of the Versatile Multilayer Disc HD player claim to have secured distribution through US IT chain PC Rush. 10,000 units have apparently been ordered. This follows deals to make the system available in India, Australia and Central Europe. Unlike either HD DVD or Blu-ray, VMD uses a red laser to deliver hi-def video, ostensibly to make player production cheaper than its rivals.
PC Rush CEO Fred Bokhoor says: “We are very excited about stocking this unique product, which we feel can make high-definition accessible to a whole new segment of the home entertainment market.”
