US Blu-ray player population reaches 2.7 million

December 5th, 2007 · No Comments

The US Blu-ray player population has reached 2.7 million, according to figures released by the US Blu-ray Disc Association. The number, predictably, includes all iterations of the BD-spinning PlayStation 3 which has enjoyed a sales surge following dramatic cuts in its retail price. The total US sales of Blu-ray movies passed the 4 million mark in November. By way of comparison, sales of HD DVD discs reached 2.5 million, according to the BDA.
The unit sales figures follow an announcement from the US HD DVD Promotional group which claimed dedicated HD DVD players sales of 750,000 units following the Black Friday sales.
